Completing Your First Triathlon
So, you have decided to enter your first triathlon? You have made a great choice in joining GPC Squad and surrounding yourself with great coaches and a great team. This makes training, especially in winter, easier and more enjoyable.
The best way to get the most out of your training is to be on a personalised program. This gives you accountability, the correct amount of effort and recovery. The relationship between you and your coach is very important. Remember you are a team, working together to achieve your goals. You must let your coach know if you are feeling amazing, sick, flat, if work is super busy or your weekly schedule changes. We can make changes to your weekly program. Remember if we don’t know we can’t change it.
Preparing your equipment for the race can be daunting check out GPC’s three part series in preparing for a triathlon:

On race day focus on relaxing & controlling the controllables. Things like breakfast, transition set up. Don’t waste time stressing over things like the weather, wind, size of the waves etc. because the conditions are the same for everyone.
Prepare yourself mentally for the process of the day. Take a look at GPC’s race day warm ups and step by step race day schedule.
Finally, if you have any questions, ask your coach. Many of the scenarios you will face on race day can be and will be simulated in training or specific sessions. As they say, practice makes perfect.
