I hate tapers. They make me feel lethargic, grumpy, tense, fat and slow 🙂 I usually doubt myself more and I don’t feel fast anymore. Taper blues is a real thing. I can even feel a bit down when I stop the training machine to rest the body.
BUT they are so needed and an essential part of the preparation. You need to trust to process and recharge the batteries before a big race. Best thing to do is to keep the body moving and do some short and sharp sprints during your taper, especially on the week leading into the race. Taper for Shepparton LD should be starting this week so good luck with it 🙂
